Piper, Australia’s first lady of blues, returns to Pine Island this Sunday
Anni Piper, Australia’s “First Lady of the Blues” will be appearing at Bert’s Bar Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. Her music has been described as “raw and raucous, right on, down and dirty, down under playing of the blues” by the Illinois Times.
Piper began playing guitar when she was 12 years old but switched to bass when she started singing the blues at 14. In 2004, she released “Jailbait,” her first recording of original music, and was promptly proclaimed Best New Talent at the 2005 Australian Blues Music Awards.
Her sultry vocals have attracted a record deal with USA label Blues Leaf Records in 2008. Since then she has produced several new albums including: “Texas Hold ‘Em” (2007), “Two’s Company (2009), “Chasin Tail” (2010) and in 2013, “Split Second.”
“Split Second” displays Piper’s bass playing talents throughout but she shares vocals with Florida talent Nicole Hart.
