A single-vehicle crash early Tuesday in Cape Coral left one person in the hospital.

Timothy Francis Holland, 22, of the Cape, was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after the accident on Palm Tree Boulevard, officials reported.

At 1:25 a.m., Holland was traveling south on Palm Tree in a Mercury Cougar, when he came upon a right curve in the road in the 4000 block. According to police, he was driving too fast and was unable to negotiate the turn. The vehicle entered the median, where the front left struck a palm tree.

The Mercury cut the tree in half, before striking another palm tree and coming to a final stop.

Police reported that Holland was pinned in the vehicle, and the Cape Coral Fire Department had to extricate him. Unresponsive, he was trauma-alerted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The accident was alcohol and drug related, according to officials.

The case is pending further investigation, police reported.
