Another great Oktoberfest weekend expected
The German American Social Club could not have asked for better weather or more visitors for the first weekend of Oktoberfest. Early forecasts project pretty much the same for this weekend as well with sunny skies and warm temperatures.
So, if you didn’t break out the lederhosen and steins from the closet last weekend, now is the time to do so. For if last weekend was any indication, this could end up being a record-breaking event for one of Cape Coral’s signature events.
The final weekend – today, Saturday and Sunday – of the 29th annual Oktoberfest is expected to have the same jam-packed fun and wall-to-wall music as the first.
The fun starts at 4 p.m. today in the big tent with Eddie Korosa Jr., the King of the Chicken Dance, followed by the 22-piece import from Denmark, Bodensee Perlen, which will alternate until midnight. Peter and Edith will perform in the garden from 5 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, the fun starts at noon. Korosa moves to the garden as Hafenkapelle, Manni Daum Duo and Bodensee Perlen are featured in the tent.
The final day will start with a church service at 11 a.m. in the big tent, with the grand parade at 1 p.m. Hafenkapelle and Manni Daum Duo will perform in the garden along with Big Band Bad Bergzabern, which will play two sets starting at 5 p.m. before the outdoor show comes to an end at 9.
Peter and Edith will wrap it up at Edelweiss Hall from 7 to 11 p.m.
The Ukrainian Dancers will perform once in each venue on Saturday and Sunday, and there will be a prize drawing in the big tent each day.
As usual there will be plenty of dancing, Ms. Oktoberfest, Petra Besenhard, and a carnival for the kids including bounce houses and a climbing wall.
And, of course, food. There’s Bratwurst at the Rheinhaus, Schweinhaxen from the Alpiner Haus, fresh sandwiches at the Black Forest Haus and a sit down dinner in Von Stueben Hall, with Schnitzel, sauerbraten or potato dumplings.
If that doesn’t float your boat, you can have a hamburger or a funnel cake from the numerous food vendors, or browse around to see some of the wares being sold by other vendors.
There will also be plenty of beer on tap, German and domestic.
Festival tickets are $6 at the door or $5 in advance. Advance tickets are available at the German American Social Club, the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral and Hess Express stations.
