VFW Post 4353 to hold fund-raiser for Breese family
The Pine Island VFW Post 4353 will hold a fund-raiser for the Edward Breese family Monday, Oct. 27, beginning at 4 p.m.
Breese sustained a broken neck, broken back and injuries to his head and arm in a fall while on a construction job Thursday, Sept. 11.
“The doctors said if he wasn’t in such great shape physically the fall would have killed him,” Missy Breese, Edward’s wife, said. “They also said Eddie will never work again.”
On Sept. 11, 2014, Eddie Breeze, a 45-year-old Marine veteran, left his home in Cape Coral and went to his construction job in Fort Myers. The work involved being on the roof where there were several open skylights.
Breese reportedly brought the hazard to the attention of supervisors but nothing was done. A short time later, he fell through one of the open skylights 2 1/2 stories to a concrete floor.
Breese was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated for trauma. He was later discharged and taken to Bay Pines VA Hospital near Tampa.
A 1988 graduate of Fort Myers High School, Breese served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988 to 1992. Edward and Melissa Breese have a 1-year-old son.
The family is in desperate shape and needs help. The immediate needs are gas cards, grocery cards, groceries, etc.
“We are doing this because Mr. Breese served his country in the U.S. Marines,” VFW Commander Keith Keefer said. “This family desperately needs help and I believe Pine Islanders will be as generous as they can.”
