Sousa Family Benefit Nov. 2 at Old Fish House Marina
In the blink of an eye Kathy Sousa’s world was railroaded. Kathy and fiance, Jason Hite along with their two little girls, Denim 4 and Hannah 2 were traveling back to Pine Island after a week’s vacation with family in Virginia. In North Carolina their car was hit and Jason was killed instantly. Stranded along the side of the road with two babies Kathy’s happy ending did just that, it ended. Kathy was taken to one hospital, Jason to another and the girls were scooped up by the paramedics and watched after until family could arrive from Virginia and Pine Island. After tests that determined Kathy had series back injuries and needed extensive therapy she was told that Jason, her fiance had not survived the accident. From that moment on, Kathy was alone with two babies. Kathy’s family surrounded her pleaded with her to come back home to Virginia. But for Kathy, homewas with Jason on Pine Island, Florida. She wanted to go back to the house they shared and be surrounded by the memories they had made together. “I just want to be around his things and our memories,” said Kathy.
Now, home and unable to work per the doctor’s orders (although Kathy still shows up to work on time and begs for more hours) the bills are piling up. Kathy is the manager at Domino’s Pizza in the Winn Dixie Plaza. Domino’s has not only been a place of employment, but has been a life saver! Dominos’ went beyond the call of duty and took care of the Sousa’s family rent for a few months. Yet, with medical bills on top of medical bills Kathy is fighting a losing battle on her own. She needs us! She needs Pine Island to wrap their arms around her and scoop up her babies and walk them through these dark days. Although life may crash in around us, bills continue to take residency in our mailboxes. Life’s most difficult maneuver is to keep breathing when the air has been kicked out of usthis is when we need the encouragement of our family and community.
On Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Old Fish House Marina, a benefit will be held to help raise money for Kathy and her stack of bills. From noon to 4 p.m., Pine Island and Matlacha are hosting a barbecue, silent auction, and live music to raise a love gift offering for the Sousa family.
Please stop by and offer your love and support to one of our own.
