Jerry “JC” Congdon
Jerry “JC” Congdon of St. James City, FL passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at Hope Hospice. Jerry was the son of Doris and Glenn of Weaver, Iowa. He is survived by his wife Lee, son Craig, two step-sons Michael (wife Linda) and Greg (wife April); three step-grandchildren Kyle, Kameron and Sophia, mother Doris, brother Larry and three sisters Virginia, Peggy and Bonnie. Jerry is also survived by 2 aunts, Virginia and June as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry received his MBA from the University of Missouri and went on to spend 27 years as a Group and General Manager in the electronics industry. After retiring, Jerry and Lee spent time traveling the countryside in their RV, searching for the perfect retirement spot. They found that spot in St. James City, FL, where they enjoyed the people and the fishing. Jerry and Lee moved to St. James City with their dog Tiki and cat Thumper. He was a proud Marine and a member of the American Legion Post 136, VFW 4353, and Moose Lodge Chapter 1843. During his tenure with the American Legion, Jerry served in many roles, including Finance Officer, Executive Committee, Honor Guard and for a time, performed duties as a Chaplain. Jerry’s favorite times were the ones spent with Lee, the love of his life, family and friends, as well as spending time outside fishing, hunting, and walking through the woods searching for Morel mushrooms. He also enjoyed helping friends and family working on home improvement or woodcrafting projects. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Fisher House Foundation at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Tampa, FL 33612. A memorial service will be held for Jerry at the American Legion Post 136, St. James City on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11am.
