Breeze Newspapers to host Pet Expo & Pet Halloween Costume Contest
Pet owners are invited and encouraged to attend the first Pet Expo & Pet Halloween Costume Contest at the Breeze Newspapers Saturday, Oct. 18.
A number of local vendors will display their wares or services, plus four local animal shelters with animals up for adoption. Available from the vendors will be items like pet food and supplies, grooming services and veterinarian services, to name just a few.
Bubba’s Roadhouse is the sole provider of people food and beverages for those attending the expo from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the paved parking lot behind the Breeze building at 2510 Del Prado Blvd.
“Being Cape Coral’s only community newspaper, we are doing this as an outreach project to show our dedication to the community,” said Cynthia Gallagher, Breeze Newspapers advertising director. “Everybody likes pets, so it’s a fun thing to do around Halloween and October is National Adopt-A-Pet month. There are so few places that you can take your pets to these days, so it’ll be a big hit.”
The fun things to do include several contest categories. There will be a Best Pet Halloween Costume contest, Best Pet & Owner Theme Costume Contest and a Best Pet & Owner Look-Alike Contest.
Entries and photos will be taken from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Photos of the winners will be published in the Lee County Shopper on Oct. 29.
A special guest expected at the expo is Lily, an adorable 1-year-old disabled kitten who was picked up as a stray by an Animal Refuge Center volunteer. She now has a permanent foster home with an ARC board member because she is not adoptable.
Lily was born without weight-bearing bones in her front legs and compensates by walking upright on her hind legs.
The Cape Coral Parks & Recreation, Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral, Black Business Solutions, Caloosa Tent & Rental, Allied Portables, Animal Refuge Center, 45 mph Couch Potato Greyhound Adoption, Cavalier Rescue of Florida and Gulf Coast Humane Society Shelter are sponsoring partners of the expo.
Vendor spots are limited with just a few remaining. Vendors can contact Gallagher at 239-850-6162 to reserve space.
