Team Yankee Dooley Dandy wins Bert’s Redfish Challenge
Sixteen teams participated in the 6th Annual Bert’s Redfish Challenge Saturday, Sept. 13. Teams competed for the heaviest combined weight of two legal sized redfish.
Many of the teams brought in fish to be weighed at the Metro Scale and Lift Weigh Station but were unable to outweigh Team Yankee Dooley Dandy (Billy Glass, Jenn Glass and Sherry Dooley) which edged out the competition with a total weight of 17.18 pounds to take first place.
Team Coastline Heating and Cooling took second place with a total weight of 16.80 pounds.
Third place was taken by Team Fishware Outfitters with a total weight of 16.66 pounds.
All of the fish weighed were released healthy and they swam away from Bert’s to fight another day.
The Bert’s Redfish Challenge would not of been a success without the generous donations from the many local businesses for the raffle and silent auction, the many volunteers who came to help sell tickets and, of course, the sponsors: Bert’s Bar and Grill, Team Jill Dean RE/MAX Realty, Coastline Heating and Cooling, Douglas Property Management, Bubba’s Roadhouse Saloon, Cambio Dermatology, Little Lilly’s Island Deli, Honc Industries, an anonymous veteran, and SP Designs and Mfg.
Despite it being a tough weekend to put on a tournament – there were four other tournaments going on – and the weather, which turned out to be nice despite a forecast to be windy and rainy, we were able to raise $1,000 for Pine Island F.I.S.H.
Organizers reported that they are looking forward to putting on another great event next year!
