Pedestrian injured after being ‘sideswiped’ by Cape police vehicle
A pedestrian crossing Pine Pine Road Thursday night was injured after being “sideswiped” by an off-duty officer driving an unmarked police vehicle.
The injuries were described as “minor” and pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital.
The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 100 block of Northeast Pine Island Road. According to a statement issued by Cape police, the pedestrian was crossing in the middle of Pine Island Road.
Florida Highway Patrol is conducting the traffic crash investigation.
“As is normal in all officer-involved crashes, an administrative review will be conducted by the Cape Coral Police Department Professional Standards Bureau to determine if the vehicle was being operated according to Department policy,” the statement reads.
More information will be released once FHP concludes its investigation, officials said.
