School board candidate debate set for Thursday
The Hispanic American Citizens Council is sponsoring a School Board Debate at Kaiser University Auditorium, 9100 Forum Corporate Pkwy, Fort Myers, on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Don Armstrong and Steve Teuber will take questions from a dedicated group of high schoolers.
“They have a special stake in the outcome of this election and I’m very proud of how they’ve stepped up to take charge,” said Charlie Flores, President of the Council in a prepared statement.
The students are Model U.N. ambassadors from Oasis High School and members of the Future Business Leaders of America from Riverdale High School.
The debate is open to everyone and refreshments are being subsidized by The Smith Family Foundation. Now that there are only two candidates left in this District 4 election, this debate is a chance to hear the candidates, side by side, answering the same questions.
“We’re hoping this kind of information will help voters decide, and induce more voters to turn out to the polls,” said Flores, “That’s our mission at the Hispanic American Citizens Council to increase community involvement and participation and events like this can help awareness of the important issues that we face.”
The mission of the Hispanic American Citizens Council is to educate, build leadership, and engage the SWF Hispanic community on the issues that affect their families and businesses. The Council provides opportunities for the community to meet candidates, and elected officials, and gives those running for office the opportunity to learn about, and engage with, this diverse segment of the community.
