Work nearly complete on Pine Island Road project
According to a release from the Florida Department of Transportation, Tuesday morning, Sept. 9, drivers will begin using four lanes (two lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound) with intermittent lane closures on Pine Island Road from Burnt Store Road to Chiquita Boulevard. Work is nearly completed on the project on SR 78/Pine Island Road from west of Burnt Store Road to west of Chiquita Boulevard.
New lanes are paved and include four-foot paved bike lanes. Roadside swales and two new stormwater ponds are in use. Final items of work in the median and shoulder require lane closures in areas. Crews will add final striping to the roadway during the first week of October, weather permitting, and this activity also will require lane closures. Motorists are reminded to use caution traveling throughout the work zone as well as when entering and exiting the roadway. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.
