Lee Greenwood to headline Lee Civic Center concert

2 min read

You can almost guarantee that thousands of cigarette lighters and cell phones will light up the Lee Civic Center when “God Bless the USA” is sung.

That’s because country legend Lee Greenwood will headline the Veteran Country Jam Concert on Saturday, Oct. 25, with gates opening at 6 p.m.

Michael Wright, the Grayson Roger Band and Killa Watts will open the show.

The Veterans Country Jam is designed to uplift and honor American service men and women by bringing music and camaraderie to our veterans and active-duty personnel.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit local veterans organizations so they can continue to help those who served us.

Those organizations include: American Legion Post 38, Fort Myers; Collier County Honor Flight; National Coalition for Patriots, Cape Coral; and VFW Post 4254, Bonita Springs.

Those organizations will also get a combined 500 tickets to give to area veterans they serve.

Veterans Country Jam was started by Wright and George Tice, a decorated Desert Storm veteran whose dream was to give back to the veterans community.

Tice, who suffered from post traumatic stress disorder while in Iraq, has helped honor veterans by staging homecomings and fishing trips and honoring them at Florida Tarpons football games, as well as getting a car for a veteran.

But Tice wanted to go one step further, and the idea of a concert came up.

“We met through a mutual friend and wanted to help our local veterans. What better way to bring them in than to honor them at a concert,” Tice said.

Wright used his national contacts to secure Greenwood and sign a contract with him.

Greenwood is best known for his single and signature song “God Bless the USA,” which was released in 1984 and became popular again after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. It was also his best- charting pop hit.

So far, sales have been good, Tice said. Local radio stations told him that Lee County fans tend to buy tickets at the last minute.

Tickets start at $20. Floor seats are $35 and VIPs seat are $100.

Parking is included in the price. Tickets are available online at LeeCivicCenter.com.
