Vendors sought for foundation family weekend

The Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation and the Southwest Florida Military Museum & Library promises a weekend of education and fun Sept. 27 and 28.

That is when the foundation will host the Freedom and Family Weekend at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, and will feature a weekend of military history, music and family fun.

“We really hope to attract kids in uniform, who will be admitted free and will be invited to participate in the closing ceremony at 5 p.m., where they will march around the inside of the stadium with a military marching band playing,” Santillo said.

Ralph Santillo, founder of the Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation, said the event is geared to military personnel, past and present, and will feature a host of entertainment.

Saturday will feature World War II, Vietnam and Civil War reenactments, military vehicles and memorabilia will be on display as well as classic hot rods, motorcycles and cars.

Local bands, such as One Night Rodeo, will provide music.

Sunday will be geared toward kids and families, with tons of games and food.

“We didn’t start planning it would be like this. We had so many inquiries from people wanting to be a part of it,” Santillo said. “All the proceeds go to the foundation to help our local veterans, and we’re trying to make it our major fundraiser.”

Santillo said they have Hooters, Lamar and Comcast as major sponsors, but are looking for others, as well as vendors to sell food and other items.

“We’re still looking for more major sponsors who want their names in lights, and vendors who would like a booth,” Santillo said. “We have six food vendors and are looking for a few more.”

A 20-by-20 booth goes for $300, with a 10-by-20 booth selling for $200. There is a limit of 10 food vendors because the stadium has vendors, Santillo said.

Except for the finale, the event will occur outside the ballpark.

The Southwest Florida Military Museum & Library is at 4820 Leonard St. in Cape Coral. For more information or to express interest in sponsorship or vending, contact Santillo at 910-5699.
