Summer Lunch Program a big hit
To the editor:
The Free Summer Lunch Program was a big hit on Pine Island again this summer! The program ran from June 9 to Aug. 1. We served 1,646 nutritious lunches for children at the Pine Island Elementary School, the Pine Island Pool and The Church of God of Prophecy, Bokeelia.
Lunches were sponsored by the Lee County School District, prepared by the cafeteria staff at PIE ( coordinated by Diane Greer), and lunches were served by local volunteers. As volunteer co-ordinator, I wish to thank Pam Young, Andrea Thomas, Barbara Wang, Mary Schuette, Michele Cannata, Barbara Riordan, Mary Margaret Koontz, Sarah Hyde, Karen Cook, Barbara Lewis, Gail Barreiter, Jennifer Cann and Hannah Rich, Sarah Sciple, Toni Lupien and Denise Northey.
On the last day of the program, The Matlacha Hookers generously supplied ice cream for all the children.
