Macomber to host question-and-answer session

By Staff | Sep 27, 2011

Author and resident of Matlacha, Robert Macomber, will host a question-and-answer session called “Between the Covers” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Pine Island Library.

Readers, fans, and other interested parties are encouraged to come and ask Macomber anything pertaining to his creative process, the writing process, the books themselves, and upcoming works from the author.

“It’ll be a fun, interactive, and informal evening,” said Macomber. “People really love to come and get answers to their questions in person.”

There will be plenty to ask about. Macomber has written nine books, set mostly in The Caribbean, Florida, and South America. The author travels extensively – about 15,000 miles in a regular year – and is known for his in-depth research on his works of historical fiction. Macomber visited Cuba three times for his 10th offering in the Honor series, Honorable Lies, which is slated for release in October 2012.

In addition to his research needs, Macomber also travels all over the world giving lectures. He holds an annual winter lecture tour in the Pacific and an autumn tour in Europe, speaking on maritime and literary themes. His lectures cover 39 topics in those two concentrations.

His appearances include the Distinguished Military Author Series at the Center for Army Analysis at Fort Belvoir, near Washington, D.C., and presentations at the U.S. Southern Command’s Notable Military Author Series, the West Point Society, NATO Headquarters (SHAPE) in Belgium, the U.S. European Command in Germany, and at the Office of Naval Intelligence. He also has given annual lectures aboard the Queen Mary 2 since her maiden voyage, as well as aboard Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, and other ultra-luxury liners.

Macomber has fans throughout the world that are eagerly awaiting the release of his new book to see what sorts of adventures the series hero, Peter Wake, will get into. In addition to his lecture and research circuit, Macomber also has an annual book tour in the US, with a few “reader rendezvous” built into the schedule.

At these events, fans can meet the author and other fans with barbeque and refreshments close at hand. The two biggest “reader rendezvous’” are held in Pine Island and Key West. According to Macomber, about 500 “Wakians” gather and party for seven hours at the Pine Island event. “Wakian” is a nickname for Macomber fans, taken from the Honor series hero, Peter Wake. Of the Q&A on Oct. 6 at Pine Island library Macomber says, “I’m looking forward to answering questions and giving people the inside story.”
