City OKs early voting for 2011 elections

By Staff | Feb 7, 2011

The city of Cape Coral will again be offering citizens a chance to vote early in the primary election Sept. 13, and the general election Nov. 8, as approved by city council on Monday.
The early voting period is held six days prior to each election day. Early voting is generally available at six locations throughout Lee County, and voters do not have to cast their ballots in their own precinct, let alone their city.
A Cape voter could cast his or her ballot if he or she is out shopping at, say, Bell Tower Shops. An early voting location is on the opposite side of U.S. 41.
City Council decided ultimately that the convenience and opportunities afforded by early voting is in the best interest of the citizens.
“An opportunity for citizens to do their civic duty, which is vote, should be made in every way possible,” said Council-member Chris Chulakes-Leetz.
Councilmember Kevin McGrail agreed.
“Any and everything we can do to get people to participate in the election process is important,” McGrail said.
City Council unanimously approved the early voting periods.
