Deputies investigating ‘suspicious package’ on Fort Myers Beach
Deputies investigating a suspicious package at a bank on Estero Boulevard have removed a small, handled package at the scene.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, CSI and paramedics have been on the scene of the Wachovia branch at 7130 Newton Place where witnesses say there was an attempted robbery and bomb scare.
A Bomb Squad robot has crawled along the exterior of the building, along with Sheriff’s Office canines and fully-suited bomb techs.
All onlookers have been moved farther and farther across Estero Boulevard and police tape is being moved farther away from the scene.
Meanwhile, nearby residents have been instructed via intercom to stay “in their units” by sheriff’s deputies.
Authorities are continuing to arrive where, as of 10:55 a.m., at least 40 official units are on scene.
The sheriff’s helicopter is no longer circling.
No official information has been released on scene however witnesses report that police are searching for white male in is mid 60s wearing tan pants and blue shirt. He is believed to be on foot.
