Cape home damaged in morning fire
A fire early Friday morning caused an estimated $50,000 damage to a home in southwest Cape Coral.
At 3:44 a.m., Cape dispatch received a 911 call reporting flames in the attic of a home at 613 S.W. 23rd Terrace. Cape fire units arrived to find a large amount of smoke coming from the home and a fire burning in the attic area.
“Firefighters extinguished the fire within 15 minutes,” Connie Barron, the fire department’s spokeswoman, said in a prepared statement. “There were no injuries.”
However, the residents were forced to evacuate until firefighters arrived.
Cape Fire Inspector Van Patterson investigated the cause of the fire and determined that it was accidental in nature and that it originated from the air handler unit. The residence was not red-tagged, according to Barron.
