Ammiel Sakall
Ammiel Sakall, 94, of St. James City passed away Dec. 23, 2010. He was born Nov. 16, 1916, at Martin’s Ferry, Ohio, to Basil and Julianna Sakall, who were Romanian immigrants. Ammiel served in the Army during World War II from August 1943 to December 1945 in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded a Eame Theater ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct medal and World War II Victory medal.
Ammiel is a life-time member of VFW Post 4353.
The oldest of 10 children, Ammiel worked at Ford Motor Company for 33 years. After retirement, Ammiel and his wife, Cora, moved from Michigan to St. James City where he kept busy working a variety of jobs on Pine Island including delivery man for the Pine Island Eagle newspaper.
Ammiel is survived by his son, Jack Sakall; two sisters, Maggie and Mary; and two brothers, Basil and Dan.
All are invited to Ammiel’s memorial service on Sunday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Pine Island VFW Post 4353, located at 8150 Stringfellow Road in St. James City.
