Over $8,000 in jewelry stolen from home
More than $8,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a Cape home Wednesday.
Cape Coral police responded to burglary at a home in the 2000 block of Southwest Eighth Place. The victim said that she left at about 7 a.m. and when she returned home at about 2:30 p.m., the front door was ajar and pieces of her jewelry were on the living room floor.
The missing items included a platinum ring with a blue topaz stone, two wedding bands, a 1958 high school ring, Egyptian bracelets, a Jamaican bangle, gold bangles, sterling and gold necklaces, a gold bracelet, 15 sliders, floating opal earrings and necklace, white rose earrings, bracelet and necklaces, a black onyx necklace and 30 pairs of holiday earrings.
Also stolen were 25 costume jewelry rings and a gold costume bracelet.
The missing pieces are valued at approximately $8,930 in total.
According to a report, it appears the person tried to enter through a back slider. The screen door to the lanai has been pried open, but it did not appear damaged. The screen to a front window had been pried off, and it appeared that the window was how the person gained entry into the home.
Police noted that it looked like the person left through the front door.
