Santa to arrive via motorcycle to 54th annual Holiday House this Saturday

By Staff | Nov 24, 2010

Santa will forego his sleigh and reindeer in his arrival at the Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club’s 54th annual Holiday House this Saturday, Nov. 27.
Santa will travel down First Street at approximately 8 p.m. on a motorcycle as he makes his way to the historic Burroughs and Langford-Kingston homes for this year’s preview of Holiday House.
“St. Nick will follow Mayor Randy Henderson’s arrival,” said Holiday House Chair Debi Fussell in a prepared statement,
Holiday House 2010 will run from Dec. 10 through 23 with special previews Nov. 27 and Dec. 3. The hours for Holiday House will be nightly from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and under are free.
“We are so excited to be back at the Burroughs and Langford-Kingston homes for the third year with a full schedule of events for attendees of all ages,” said Fussell. “And we are really excited for everyone to see all of our volunteers tireless hours creating this year’s theme of ‘Christmas through a Child’s eyes’ which captures the playful side of Christmas.”
The 15-night schedule includes performances by local dance troupes, school choruses, jazz and brass bands, orchestras and more. New this year will be a Christmas cookie contest and holiday karaoke contest hosted by local celebrity judges as well as a celebrity reading night. The holiday favorite Singing Christmas Tree is also scheduled for four nights.
“We consider Holiday House to be our gift to the community each year and we are very pleased to have a special entertainment component added to each night of this year’s event,” said FMWCC President Beth Schultz in the statement.
Hundreds of members and volunteers of the Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club spend hours embellishing the interior and exteriors of the Burroughs and Langford-Kingston homes, lawns and grounds with holiday decor.
The Burroughs Home and Gardens is on 2.45 acres in downtown Fort Myers and is bounded on the north by the Caloosahatchee River and on the south by First Street. The home boasts turn-of-the-century Georgian Revival architecture and has not been altered considerably since construction was completed in 1901.
“Holiday House has something for everyone,” said Fussell. “In addition to walking through these two festively decorated homes and grounds, children can visit Santa each evening at the Langford-Kingston home.” A variety of local music and dance groups will provide entertainment each evening.
