Man still in critical condition from motorcycle accident
A Cape Coral man remained hospitalized Friday, three weeks after he crashed into a wooden utility pole while driving a motorcycle.
Neil Jesse Joiner, 25, of 3123 N.W. 16th Place, was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital on Oct. 29 in critical condition after the motorcycle he was riding collided into the pole in the 1800 block of Jacaranda Parkway West.
Hospital officials reported Friday that Joiner is still listed in critical condition.
According to police, Joiner was driving a Honda motorcycle north on Chiquita Boulevard at about 6:30 p.m. when he turned west onto Jacaranda. After making the turn, he reportedly accelerated to an estimated 70 mph to 80 mph.
Witnesses told police that the front end of the motorcycle began to wobble due to the high speed. It veered to the left, exited the roadway and entered a vacant field. The motorcycle struck the pole head-on and Joiner was ejected.
The force of the collision snapped the utility pole in half.
Joiner was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital via MEDSTAR with what officials called “life-threatening injuries.” Alcohol allegedly was a factor.
“Joiner also did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement to operate the Honda,” Connie Barron, a spokeswoman for the police, stated at the time.
