10th Gulf Middle Winter Break Program begins Dec. 20

The 10th annual Gulf Middle School Winter Break Program will kick off Dec. 20 for all Lee County kindergarten through 8th grade students.
The program provides such activities like dodge ball, ping pong, video games, board games, jump rope, organized team games, movies, outside activities, music, crafts and much more.
The director of Gulf Middle School’s Winter Break Program, Vickie Daley, said they offer a very non-structured camp to allow each child with the opportunity to choose what they would like to do.
“We don’t make them do crafts if they don’t like crafts,” she said. “We don’t force them to do anything they don’t want to do.”
Depending on the number of students who sign up for the camp, Daley will assign more counselors per student. She said every counselor will have less than 15 students.
The two-week program will run from Dec. 20-31 for $100 per week or $25 a day per child. The program will be held Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., and from 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday.
Daley explained that the program will be closed on Christmas day and New Years day and will be open until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Daley said on New Year’s Eve they will have a party for the kids in the cafeteria due to the large disco ball located there. She explained that the kids can bring their music, so they can dance and have fun during their day time party.
Parents are required to send their children with lunch, snacks and refreshments. Students who attend the program are also encouraged to bring sneakers for when they participate in active play.
She explained that individuals can either obtain all of the required forms online or through fax.
