A Cape Coral firefighter is on administrative duty following his arrest on a charge of driving under the influence, according to officials.
James Finn Stathopoulos, 25, of Fort Myers, was arrested and charged Wednesday with one count of DUI. According to official documents, he was picked up by the Florida Highway Patrol on Interstate 75 southbound, near mile marker 130. A caller reported that a vehicle was “all over the road.”
Stathopoulos was transported to the Lee County Jail.
As of Thursday, he had been released on $750 bond.
Stathopoulos could not be reached for comment.
Connie Barron, spokeswoman for the city, said Stathopoulos was hired on Dec. 28, 2009. His annual salary with the fire department is $50,144.63.
“He has been placed on administrative duties pending the completion of an internal investigation,” she said.
According to Barron, the investigation had not started as of Thursday.
“I think they are still waiting for the arrest report, but it should be started soon,” she said.
Stathopoulos has a court date set for Nov. 1.
