A special thank you from the Food Pantry

By Staff | Sep 21, 2010

To the editor:

A special thank you to Calvin “Butch” Waring and Jan Green’s Labor Day Golf Tournament, held at Alden Pines Country Club, on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010.

All of the volunteers at the Pine Island Food Pantry and the families that we serve, send our sincere thanks to Butch and Jan, for sponsoring and running their tournament each year. Their time and talents are a gift to the organizations and individuals that benefit from their generosity.

The Pine Island Food Pantry benefited fro the event this year, as the golf team of Jim Fox, a Food Pantry volunteer, Walt Clemens, Jamie Curry and Jim Dudley, took first place and designated $1,113 to the Pine Island Food Pantry. In addition, at the request of Dr. James Cole, who also played in the tournament, another $200 was donated to the SAS program operated by the Beacon of HOPE. This program provides assistance to elementary children needing help in school.

Thank you again to everyone who supported this fund raiser, Butch and Jan, Alden Pines Country Club, all the golf teams and players who competed on Labor Day, private donors and the team of Clemens, Curry, Dudley and Fox, who helped to raise money for the people of the island.
