Hurricane Julia advisory for 5 a.m. Sept. 14

At 5 a.m. AST, Julia was moving toward the west-northwest near 12 MPH. A west-northwest to northwest motion with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 MPH with higher gusts. Julia is a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. Some additional mstrenthening is forecast during the next day or so.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles.
