Marijuana plants seized from home
Cape Coral police confiscated about $140,000 worth of marijuana plants following the execution of a search warrant at a home Thursday.
At 1:45 p.m., patrol officers with the North District notified detectives in the Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit of a possible marijuana grow house operation at 321 N.E. 29th St. Connie Barron, a spokeswoman for the police, said there were indicators that marijuana was being cultivated at the home.
Based on the information available to police, VIN detectives believe that at least one person was inside the home. Cape police secured a search warrant for the property and attempted to execute the warrant at 6 p.m.
According to Barron, detectives received no response from the occupant believed to be inside after deploying numerous tactics. As a precaution to ensure the safety of nearby neighbors, police requested the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The LCSO deployed a bomb robot and gained entry through the front door of the home. After the robot cleared most of the residence, Cape officers with the SWAT Unit entered the home and conducted a sweep. Officials reported that no one was found hiding inside of the residence.
Police discovered 35 fully mature marijuana plants in the garage of the residence. The plants, which were seized, had a prepackaged weight of 156 pounds and a street value of approximately $140,000, according to Barron.
The VIN Unit was also assisted by the CCPD’s Street Crimes and K-9 units.
Barron reported that the investigation is continuing.
