Local author’s presentation and book signing to be held at Pine Island Cove
Margaret Olympia Prescott Whipple, mother of Pine Island resident, Patricia Miller, will be at Pine Island Cove Clubhouse on Friday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. for a presentation and book signing of her recently published memoirs, “A Gift of Memory: Daughter of a Fugitive”.
Peg Whipple was born Aug. 25, 1922 in Daytona Beach. She began writing her memoirs at the age of 82 in 2004. Initially, she used a second hand typewriter given to her by her son-in-law, Bruce Miller. Then in 2006, Peg bought a computer and became proficient using it at the age of 84. Now, this year, at age 87, she has published her book. Her exceptional memory has allowed for the documentation of her life in FLorida for nearly 88 years.
In her book, Daughter of a Fugitive, Peg share with us her numerous adventures including stories of the depression era, the war years, the times of peace and prosperity, the trials and tribulations of growing up with her prim and proper mother and her alcoholic , often fugitive, father.
A well-known artist. Peg’s paintings and artwork reside in numerous locations throughout the southeast. There are no doubts her memoirs, A Gift of Memory: Daughter of a Fugitive, will be regarded as literary art and a treasure in many places.
