Floyd E. Burton
Floyd E. Burton, 87, formerly of St. James City, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Farmer City Rehab and Healthcare Center.
He was born June 24, 1923, in Wayne, Ohio, son of Deloy and Lavilla Bovie Burton. He married Wanda T. Duncan in 1944. She survives.
He had one daughter, Cindy Ann, who died in a car accident in 1961.
Survivors include half-brothers, Russell (the late Pat) Burton; John (Joyce) Burton; half-sister, Joyce (Clyde) Shammo; nieces and nephews and many friends throughout the U.S.
He is predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Gray.
Floyd owned area businesses over the hears, including a gas station, cafe and bus stop in Mansfield. He owned and operated Burton Furniture in Farmer City, worked for the city of Farmer City and was also an auxiliary police officer. He was an active part in the community by serving as an east-side alderman, was on the county board and the Chamber of Commerce.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was a lifetime member of Bellflower United Methodist Church and a church in Florida as well as a member of Farmer City American Legion Post 55, Farmer City VFW Post 6190, Goodfellow Post 59 in Clinton and Farmer City Masonic Lodge, where he served as former master.
Floyd and his wife lived in Illinois until he retired, they then moved to Pine Island for several years. They moved back to Illinois and lived there for the last 12 years.
Floyd loved and enjoyed everyone and loved to go fishing.
