A Fort Myers infant hospitalized Saturday afternoon after being shot in the abdomen was shot accidentally by a man handling a gun inside the residence, police said Sunday.
Felipe Escalante, 19, will be charged with aggravated child neglect after he receives the medical care that he needs for a pre-existing condition prior Saturday’s incident, officials said.
The 1-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert. The infant underwent surgery and remains at the hospital, officials said.
Police were called to the 2531 Wright Street #151 home at 1:31 p.m.
