A Cape Coral man charged with killing a teen in 2009 and on bond, was released a second time in a different case where he is accused of stabbing a man.
But a judge on Friday revoked the bond and put him back in jail.
Adeirean Nicholas Carey, who was 27 at the time, was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of Marcos Santiago, 17, of 1604 Oak Drive in Pine Manor in June 2009.
The charge was later reduced to manslaughter.
He had posted $51,500 in bonds on the murder and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute charges.
Carey, now 28, was then arrested on July 12 of this year by Fort Myers police, accused of stabbing a man at a party.
Bond was set at $100,000 and he was released from jail July 13.
But on Friday, Lee Circuit Judge Mark Steinbeck revoked the bond without a motion from the state.
The action came during a case management hearing, said Samantha Syoen, a State’s Attorney’s Office spokeswoman.
“He asked the state if we agree. We did and he was immediately taken into custody,” she said.
Reports show that Carey’s attorney has said both incidents were self-defense and in the shooting case, he may use the state’s Stand Your Ground law as a defense.
Earlier reports show Carey, whose most recent address is listed as 1514 NE 1st Terrace, Cape Coral, and Santiago exchanged telephone calls around the time of the shooting.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies had received a call about a gunshot and glass breaking. They found Santiago dead nearby and a broken window at 5461 Fourth Ave.
Carey was not there when deputies arrived.
Witnesses said Carey was inside the duplex and shot the victim through the window, investigators have said.
Carey’s 2001 Hyundai was parked in the backyard and contained marijuana in excess of 70 grams packaged for street sale, officials said.
Additionally, two handguns and a short-barreled shotgun were found.
Carey turned himself in to authorities a few days after the shooting.
