Fishing tournament rescheduled

Due to the threat of Tropical Storm Bonnie, the David Lee Root Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 24, was postponed. The new dated for the tournament is Saturday, July 31, and organizers say they will continue to except registrations until Friday, July 30, when the Captains meeting will take place.

The cost to participate is $50 per angler. The tournament will be staged at D&D Bait and Tackle on Pine Island Road in Matlacha. The event will begin with an honor start at 7 a.m. and the final weigh-in at the D&D docks at 3:30 p.m. Prizes include $1,500 for first place, $750 for second place and $500 for third place. A catch and release tournament, each team may register the length of 2 redfish and 1 trout.

At least one team member must attend the Captains meeting which will be held at D&D beginning at 7 p.m.

A bar-be-ques, raffles and auction open to the public will take place at D&D following the presentation of awards.
