An apartment fire on Atlantic Court caused $150,000 in damage to one of the three-plex units early Monday morning.
The Cape Coral Fire Department responded to smoke coming from a vacant unit at 4807 Atlantic Court at 2:21 a.m. The fire began in the storage/laundry room on the lanai with the point of origin near the west side of the room, fire officials said.
“The goal of the fire department when they arrived was to contain the fire and make sure it did not spread to the other two units of the three-plex,” city spokesperson Connie Barron said, “which they did an excellent job of that.
“Within 30 minutes after receiving the call they got the fire knocked down,” she said, which was extinguished at 2:53 a.m.
Cape Coral Rentals Manager Gloria Garcia said the three-plex unit has been unoccupied for an entire year and has been used for furniture storage.
“It was furniture storage for other units that we have,” she said.
Garcia said if she is not mistaken the unit that was affected by the fire was a two bedroom.
At this point they have not determined the actual cause of the fire, Barron said.
“The state fire marshals office was contacted to investigate because it was incendiary,” she said.
“We are waiting for the police to call and let us know what happened,” Garcia said. “We will be happy when they catch the person.”
LCEC arrived and disconnected the power and a Cape Coral building official responded and red-tagged the unit.
