DEP State Park closures in effect due to Tropical Storm Bonnie

Eighteen of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s state parks are temporarily closed to day-use and overnight visitors today due to a Tropical Storm Watch and Tropical Storm Warning in order to provide the safest conditions possible for park visitors. The parks will be closed until further notice.

At 11 a.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Bonnie was located 30 miles south-southwest of Miami, Florida and moving to the west-northwest at 18 mph. The maximum sustained winds are 40 mph.. On this track, Bonnie will move across the southern Florida peninsula today and move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico tonight and Saturday. Bonnie is expected to approach the northern Gulf Coast late Saturday. Some slight strengthening is possible when the cyclone moves over the Gulf of Mexico late tonight and Saturday.
