Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp has issued the regarding the death of George Steinbrenner:
“Our state has lost a great Floridian today with the passing of George Steinbrenner. Mr. Steinbrenner made significant contributions to our country and the state of Florida. As owner of the most storied sports team in the history of the United States, he ensured the New York Yankees had a significant presence in Florida. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa is a fitting tribute to his contributions to baseball. But his contributions went beyond sports. As owner of Tampa’s American Ship Building Company, Mr. Steinbrenner played a significant role in Florida’s economy. And he gave back to his community and state. George Steinbrenner’s philanthropy, especially for children’s issues is well known. Today we pay tribute to ‘The Boss.’ Florida is a better state because he lived here.”
