Police reach out to public for help in home invasion homicide

By Staff | Jul 13, 2010

Authorities are still searching for two men accused of fatally shooting a man during a home invasion robbery at a Cape Coral home, according to officials.
At 2:08 a.m. Saturday, police and fire units responded to a 911 call about a home invasion at 511 N.W. Second Ave. When the units arrived, they found the homeowner on the floor in the living room. Eric Leigh Stuebinger, 28, had been shot in the chest and leg, according to a police report.
Police spokeswoman Connie Barron reported that EMS attempted to revive Stuebinger, but they were unable to do so. He was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m.
A 24-year-old woman and a toddler were present during the attack but were not injured.
The woman told police that two unknown men entered the home through the unlocked front door. They were wearing masks and carrying a handgun and a Taser. The men demanded drugs and money. When Stuebinger denied having any, he was beaten, shot with the Taser and then killed with the handgun.
The woman and boy were not injured
Police are asking anyone who has information about the crime or the two men being sought to contact the Cape Coral Police Department at 574-3223. People can also call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477) and be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest.
“We’re just hoping that somebody who knows something will give us a call,” Barron said.
