‘Tow to Go’ provides safe ride home
The Tow to Go program is available through Monday for intoxicated drivers.
Provided through AAA Auto Club South and Budwesier, the program has removed more than 11,400 drunk drivers off roadways since the program began in 1998. According to a prepared statement from AAA, members and nonmembers can call for a free ride and tow between Friday and Monday.
“No one intends to be a drunk driver, it just happens, whether they’ve had way too many drinks or just one too many,” wrote Ed Schatzman, senior vice president of Automotive Services for AAA Auto Club South.
“Call volume steadily increases every Independence Day weekend and we are happy to get as many drunk drivers off the road as possible so everyone on the road can get home safely to their families,” he continued.
Tow to Go provides a confidential ride and tow home from any bar or establishment to anyone who may have had too much to drink. Simply call (800) AAA-HELP (222-4357) when needed, according to the statement.
AAA offers the following tips for a safer holiday weekend:
– Select a designated driver before going out with friends or family.
– Preprogram into a cell phone a few cab service telephone numbers.
– Keep some cash on hand for a cab ride home should it be necessary.
