An appreciation of nature, a sense of community, healthy living — these are but a few of the positive aspects of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, aspects officials want to share with all of Cape Coral during National Parks and Recreation Month.
Part of a nationwide celebration, National Parks and Recreation Month hopes to showcase park systems and invite community participation.
Michelle Dean, marketing and sales coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department, said the city takes part in the celebration every year.
Dean said the month-long celebration is a great opportunity for people to be reminded what Cape parks have to offer. Or for people to discover it then for the first time.
“This is a chance for people to be reminded of the positive experiences available in the community, that’s part of the community’s resources,” Dean said.
All month, Cape Coral’s parks and recreation centers will host a variety of special activities and events.
Free open houses at Four Freedoms Park, Lake Kennedy Center and the Youth Center/Eagle Skate Park and free boat trailer parking at city boat ramps are available in July.
Saturday, July 17, the Cape Coral Yacht Club is hosting a free open house, with kids crafts and games on the beach, life saving and rescue demonstrations by pool lifeguards, opportunities to try something called stand up paddle, and performances by Calendar Girls.
There will also be an ice cream social at the Tony Rotino Senior Center the same day.
As part of the “It starts in parks” initiative, Dean said residents can benefit from the city’s parks and recreation system, especially during July and National Parks and Recreation month.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to remind people of these great and free resources,” Dean said.
