Driver’s license services moving into tax collector’s offices
Hoping to consolidate services, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is closing the doors of the driver’s license office on Northeast Van Loon Lane, effective today.
The move is an effort to have county tax collector offices take over the majority of driver’s license services.
Tax collector offices all around the state are now taking on those responsibilities.
“The state is moving toward transferring services for driver’s license to the county tax collector offices,” said Courteney Heidel-berg from the state Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles office in Tallahassee. “County tax collector offices are now one stop shops for getting motorist services done.”
The Lee County Tax Collector’s office at 1039 S.E. 9th Ave., across from the post office near Cape Coral City Hall, will now handle all necessary services.
Renewals, replacements, reinstatements and written tests are now available at that location.
“Tax collector’s offices were already providing the motor vehicle services, this just adds driver’s license services, so customers will have a one-stop shop for all their needs,” Heidelberg said.
A Fort Myers office located at 2516 Colonial Blvd., located in the AAA office, is also closing.
Tax collector’s offices in Lehigh Acres, North and South Fort Myers, Fort Myers and Bonita Springs will provide driver license services.
The Cape Coral location at 1039 S.E. 9th Ave, room 102, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
