Crist accepting applications for school board seat

By Staff | Jun 21, 2010

Gov. Charlie Crist is now accepting applications for Lee County residents interested in being appointed to fill the District 1 seat of the Lee County School Board.
Board member Robert Chilmonik resigned from the school board last Wednesday to pursue his own race for the District 1 seat of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, leaving a vacant seat on the school board until the primary in August.
Three candidates have qualified for the District 1 seat — John Traube, Mary Fischer and Arnold Gibbs — and therefore, an appointee will be in office from the time of their appointment to when a new board member is elected.
A spokesperson from the governor’s office said Monday that applications are currently being accepted, but none have been received.
The District 1 seat encompasses parts of Cape Coral, Pine Island and Sanibel Island.
For information about submitting an application to be considered an appointee of the school board, contact the Governor’s Appointments Office at 850-488-2183.
The appointments office assists the governor in sifting through applicants to find a viable appointee.
