Cape firefighter injured after ceiling collapse at house fire
A Cape Coral firefighter suffered a shoulder injury Monday evening when a ceiling collapsed while he was working at a house fire at 3216 N.E. 14th Court.
According to city officials, at 5:48 p.m., Cape fire units responded to a report of smoke coming from the roof of the residence, which was unoccupied. When firefighters arrived, flames were showing and crews extinguished the fire using an interior attack.
Lightning is the suspected cause.
The injured firefighter was taken to Cape Coral Hospital.
Storm activity kept city fire crews busy throughout the evening, officials said. Kingsway Christian Church on Kismet Parkway, East, suffered damage when straight-line winds peeled back several metal roof panels and exposed the sub-roofing to the elements.
Units also responded to multiple fire alarm activations.
