Names of children involved in traffic crash identified
Cape Coral police have identified the child who was struck and killed Wednesday night on Northeast 11th Terrace as well as a second child injured in the same crash.
Abigail Lynn Janssen, 7, was playing on a skateboard on a driveway in the 800 block of Northeast 11th Terrace with Anna McManus, 10. Each child was laying chest down on a skateboard and going down the driveway. The driver, Jacob Aaron Amann, 27, was traveling west on Northeast 11th Terrace and did not see the girls until they entered the roadway. The driver hit his brakes and veered to the left in an attempt to avoid the girls, police said.
The investigation indicates that the front right tire of the vehicle struck Abigail, who was fatally injured. The other child, Anna McManus, was following behind Abigail and was struck by the rear tire. Anna suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A blood sample was taken from Jacob Amann and will be sent to the FDLE lab for toxicology results, officials said.
Samples are routinely taken in crashes involving a fatality.
Amann could not be reached for comment. The families of the children requested through the Cape Coral Police Department that they not be contacted by the media at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
