Mother and infant critical after being stabbed in domestic disturbance

By Staff | May 21, 2010

A Lehigh Acres man is facing attempted murder charges after he reportedly slit his daughter’s throat and that of her 3-month-old son Thursday night.
Manuel De Jesus Rosales, 43, of 1137 Gilbert Avenue South, Lehigh Acres has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder in connection with a stabbing incident that left his daughter and infant grandson in critical condition.
According to detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Rosales and his daughter, age 21, were in an argument outside their residence when Manuel began to physically attack her. She ran into the house where a witness and the victim’s two children were. Manuel chased her inside and continued to threaten her. The witness attempted to intercede, but was threatened by Manuel who had retrieved a large knife. Manuel then left the home in pursuit of his daughter who had attempted to flee.
The witness locked the doors, but moments later Manuel broke through a rear sliding glass door. The witness fled through the front door and discovered the daughter lying in the driveway with her throat cut. Manuel came the front door holding one of the children, the three-month-old infant. He sat the boy near his mother and cut the baby’s throat so she could witness the act. He then cut his daughter’s throat two more times, officials said.
Both victims remain in critical condition.
No other information was released but will be when available, officials said.
