After being given the all clear by emergency responders following this morning’s bomb scare in downtown Fort Myers, the Lee County Commission reconvened to continue its Tuesday morning meeting. When the commissioners were evacuated earlier in the day after a suspicious package was found on First Street, the topic left unaddressed by the commissioners was that of funding for the Matlacha Bridge project. According to Commissioner Ray Judah’s office, the commissioners elected to proceed with securing a loan with Bank of America to fund the Matlacha Bridge replacement project. The loan will be paid back using 1 cent of the 6 cent gas tax, which is earmarked for transportation projects such as bridge replacements.
