Cape Fire Department to offer evening CERT training course
The Cape Coral Fire Department will conduct a Community Emergency Response Team training course for residents of the city. The seven-week class will be held each Wednesday beginning May 19 and continuing thru June 30. Hours are 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Training will be at the Cape Coral Emergency Operations Center at 1115 S.E. 9th Ave.
Participants will learn basic training in fire suppression, search and rescue, first aid, CPR/AED, hazardous materials, generator and electrical safety. Class instructors are firefighters and paramedics who engage the participants in discussions involving real-life situations. Instructors encourage attendees to participate in these discussions and ask questions.
This class will expand the knowledge and experience one may already have in dealing with storms. After completion of the CERT class, attendees will be able to take charge during an emergency event and help family and friends cope with difficult situations. Each individual who completes the training will receive a certificate. Also, once the CERT course is completed, participants will be entitled to a free CPR class.
The start of hurricane season just around the corner, and prognosticators are suggesting an active season is ahead. This CERT class is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the upcoming storm season.
Any resident who is interested in signing up for the next CERT class should contact Mindy Blasetti at (239) 242-3603 or email her at mblasetti@capecoral.net.
