Golf enthusiasts are running out of time to sign up for the fourth annual “Cop Shop” Golf Tournament to be held at the Palmetto-Pine Country Club.
The Police Association of Cape Coral will host the event at the city’s only private golf course starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The entry fee is $75 per person and includes 18 holes of golf with cart and lunch, along with entry into raffles and hole contests for the longest drive, closest to the pin and more.
Dick Klein, Cop Shop golf committee chairman and member of the golf club, said people can register until Friday morning. Last year 124 people signed up. As of Wednesday, more than 100 had signed up for Saturday’s event. There are openings for men and women as single players or as a foursome group.
At the end of the event, the association will make a donation to Barbara’s Friends, the Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund at Lee Memorial Hospital. Last year the group donated about $1,500, which was the lowest donation since the tourney started, Klein said. They usually get to donate about $2,500.
“We just kind of talked about it and some people had brought up that this was a good organization and has done a lot for children,” he said. “We saw how they spend the money and do good things for the kids.”
According to Klein, the event gives non-members a chance to play at a private, award-winning golf course while having fun and helping a cause.
“It’s just a good, fun tournament,” he said.
Some of the prizes to be raffled off are multi-day and multi-night vacation packages and gift certificates for local restaurants and businesses. There are about 40 prizes in total to be handed out, a “pretty big” list, Klein said.

The Palmetto-Pine Country Club is located at 1940 S.E. Ninth Court in Cape Coral.
The Police Association of Cape Coral, nicknamed the Cop Shop, is a not-for-profit organization that has nearly 500 members, according to Klein. It is a “fraternal organization of active and retired police, fire, EMS, sheriff, military police.”
“Any type of police or fire, public safety,” he said.
