Deadline nears for MangoMania Art Contest

By Staff | May 4, 2010

MARIANNE PATON Recently several island children gathered at the Pine Island Library to work on designs they will submit for this year’s MangoMania children’s T-shirt contest. Assisting the children was Pine Island resident, Josh Cox, a student at Mariner High School who will attend SW Florida College to major as an art student. Cox is shown assisting Ashlynne Scalf, a third grade student at Pine Island Elementary, with the development of her design.

Each year a call goes out to local artists to present their designs to be used on the official adult T-shirts and promotional material for MangoMania sponsored by the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 10. On receiving the designs, the winner will be determined by a panel of chambers members who will present the artist with a reward of $300. A second category for design submissions is also open to all children under the age of 12. The winner will receive a gift of $50 and the artwork will appear on the child-size MangoMania T-shirts. Designs are to be dropped off at the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center located at 3640 Pine Island Road, Matlacha. Guidelines and submission information can be found below this announcement and for more information, call the MangoMania Hotline at 283-4842.
