Traffic fatality remains under investigation

By Staff | Apr 27, 2010

Authorities are awaiting an autopsy report to determine if a traffic accident Friday night that ended in the death of a Cape Coral man was alcohol related.
Kevin A. Wood, 25, of 108 Jacaranda Parkway, was traveling northbound on 145th Street East in Manatee County at about 7:40 p.m. when he approached a right hand curve. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, he was driving a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle and failed to negotiate the curve.
“He was going well above the posted speed limit of 25 mph,” FHP Lt. Chris Miller said.
The Yamaha traveled off the west shoulder of the road about 350 feet north of state Route 64, the report states. As the motorcycle left 145th Street, the front of the Yamaha struck a tree and Wood was ejected. No skidmarks were observed at the scene.
Wood was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the accident. Miller said the investigation remains open pending the results of the medical examiner’s report for alcohol involvement.
