Gulf Coast Village to host Living Well Expo

By Staff | Apr 27, 2010

Gulf Coast Village invites Cape Coral residents to learn about living a healthy lifestyle at its annual Living Well Expo.
On Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the continuing care retirement community at 1333 Santa Barbara Blvd. will host hundreds of visitors interested in learning about different ways to live healthy.
Jessica Barton, director of public relations at Spiro and Associates Marketing and spokesperson for Gulf Coast Village, said between 150-300 people visit the facility each year for the health expo.
“It is really meant to give area residents who could be potential residents at Gulf Coast Village to see the lifestyle available there,” said Barton.
She said Gulf Coast Village’s wellness program not only focuses on physical health, but also on emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual and vocational. Besides exercising the body, officials also want residents ready to learn new things and continue to grow.
Demonstrations are planned for Wednesday afternoon to show members of the community how to do a number of exercise programs such as tai chi, yoga, pilates, Balance in Motion and Sit Down & Shape Up. They can also receive chair massages, blood pressure and balance screenings and play games such as Wii Bowling or take painting classes to benefit psychological health.
There will also be an introduction to Chinese herbal medicine and Chef Frank from Gulf Coast Village will host a demonstration on healthy cooking.
All demonstrations are modeled after resident activities that occur on a regular basis at Gulf Coast Village.
Although the health expo is open to the public, organizers are asking residents to make a reservation by calling 573-3306. Some of the activities, such as painting classes and chair massages, have limited availability.
