Response to Mr. Swenson’s letter
To the editor:
I am a Yankee Snowbird from Illinois. We are spending our 4th winter on Pine Island. What a beautiful, friendly place to enjoy winter! Even though this year has had its cold and wet days, the people in this area have made us feel “at home.” I, for one, haven’t missed shoveling all that northern snow!
I’m impressed that Mr Swenson of Matlacha pitched in to clean up after the fire at Lob Lolly. It looks much more presentable now. I salute him, after all, one is either part of the solution or part of the problem.
As for the Chamber of Commerce sign coming into Matlacha: could The Eagle please notify the proper people at the Chamber of this confusing situation? I hate to have people be so irritated. I can only imagine the trouble we snowbirds cause as we may trespass on his dead end street. Usually, we are only trying to find a parking place, it’s so limited, so we can shop in his “very colorful and unique” little village. Our purchases support your village merchants and the sales tax we pay supports your village. I wonder though, do you realize how insulting your remark is that you miss the lettering on the road suggesting I (Yankee) go home? Have a great summer, and we’ll see you next winter.
